HAZIDs are very tedious and often almost pointless. But that's not always the case.
Yesterday's was a case in point. Seven hours to discuss the hazards and mitigations resulting from demobilising a boat from doing one thing and re-mobilising it to do another. Not a very glamorous subject to be sure but it kept 16 chaps fully occupied for 7 hours. Fully occupied and interesting too for the most part. Blimey. Either allatsea is losing the plot of they've improved the format and content no end. I hope it's the latter option.
Working at home today. There's plent to do. Acres of document reviews. Dull perhaps but it's the bread and butter of our department so must get on with it. Maersk UK have axed a hundred European marine officer types, Maersk Denmark have done the same to 170 peeps. Not a good sign. Most of the victims are from the container fleets which are in a bit of a slump these days (over capacity and less cargo to shift) so the offshore fleets are largely un-affected. It's a different skill mix (container types are regarded as second [third by some] divison) and, fortunately for the likes of us lot, for the moment anyway, we're still in demand. Well perhaps in the case of allatsea, demand is the wrong term. 'Tolerated' might be more appropriate.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading about boat accessories. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
